Canal Days 2025

My piece is called “My Village Roots”. It is a mono printed three-dimensional collage. I use a Gelli plate for printmaking and creating monoprints. I use a variety of textured wallpapers and miscellaneous materials to achieve different effects on the papers, sometimes printing a paper more than once. Once I have printed a variety of papers I cut my pieces from them for the collage. This particular piece was created for a show this year at Nazareth University’s Shared Spaces Exhibit in their Arts Center Gallery back in February. I used my own photo reference from a photo shoot I took back in 2021.

 

Elissa grew up in the village of Fairport and her house backed up to the Erie Canal. As a child she spent many days walking around the village, exploring the drained canal banks in the winter, canoeing and biking her neighborhood. Fairport is her home. She has always made a point to go to Canal Days, mostly to say hello to all of her artist friends.

 

Elissa graduated from Fairport High School and has been an art teacher in the Fairport Central School District since 2001. She really enjoys working in a variety of mediums both digitally and hands on. Most of the work she creates is mixed media combining painting, drawing, needle felting, sewing or even clay into her work.

 

Posters may be purchased during festival hours at the Information Booth located on North Main Street in front of Village Hall. The artist will be available to sign posters in her booth located on Main St. in front of Village Landing.
